Is this Yucca Rostrata or Thompsoniana? - Xeric World Forums
Distinguishing Y. rostrata from Y. thompsoniana is a bit trickier as the plants tend to grade from one extreme to the other. The more northern plants (Y. thompsoniana) are more highly branched with shorter, stiffer leaves. It looks like a classic rostrata to me. I have seen rostrata just as blue as rigida, it just depends on where the seed came from. while those of Y. rigida are more stiff and rigid as the name implies, and 2-3 cm wide. The true distinction between those two is in the seed capsule. rostrata leaves are very floppy and user friendly and about 1 cm wide. Most of the rostrata selections in tissue culture are very blue and droopy. The leaf's are quite droopy, which is more of a rostrata characteristic. Both rostrata and rigida have very blue leaves with a thin yellow margin. rostrata fruit has a long beak at the top and Y. rigida does not....
